Reviewing My 2023 Trend Predictions: Jewelry

Happy new year everyone & welcome back to the blog! This time last January, I compiled a list of trends I thought would become popular during 2023, and I thought it would be fun to look back and see if I had any accurate predictions.

Charm Bracelets

Last winter we saw a lot of eclectic jewelry starting to rise to popularity, and I predicted that classic charm bracelets would soon become very trendy. Truthfully, I started wearing beautiful a charm bracelet that had been gifted to me and I thought it was so beautiful that everyone should have one.

While my idea of a charm bracelet did not become as popular as I had hoped, we did see a trend in the spring/summer of people wearing "Italian charm bracelets," pictured below.

This trend was short lived on TikTok in 2023, but I have a feeling we will be seeing them everywhere again shortly in 2024.

Slightly after the Italian charm bracelet trend, and with some overlap, we saw charm necklaces quickly rise to popularity as a viral TikTok showcased an NYC shop selling custom charm necklaces. Here, customers can pick out their chain and the individual charms to create a piece of jewelry that is personal and unique to them.

I may not have hit the nail on the head with this prediction but I think I was close enough.

Sea Shells

An unspecific prediction, I know, but continuing with the funky/eclectic jewelry ideas I saw becoming popular, I felt like we would see a lot of shells being used in our accessories. And after seeing how popular "mermaid core" was summer 2023, I feel like it's safe to say I was right about this one.

Cross Necklaces

This prediction of mine came from a larger prediction that catholic icons and religious figures would make their way into the fashion scene in 2023. The idea is not completely original, designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier have been incorporating faith based ideas in their work for several decades, however it is less common to see these designs manifest themselves in everyday style.

From what I was seeing at the end of 2022 such as the come back of the statement necklace, I predicted that cross necklaces would become a staple in 2023 fashion. I believe this was an accurate prediction because in 2023 this trend was seen all over including on celebrities such as the Kardashians, and it was featured in the Dolce & Gabbana SS23 collection.

Red Gemstone Jewelry

My final jewelry prediction was that red gemstones such as garnet and red jasper, would become very popular. This did not end up becoming a trend, however the reason I made this prediction in the first place was because I thought that red would become a popular accent color in 2023. While this was not entirely true for jewelry, it definitely became true for fashion as a whole. By fall of 2023 red was everywhere, and we are still riding out this fashion trend!

Overall, I think I had fairly accurate predictions of the jewelry trends of 2023. I am currently formulating my list of 2024 predictions which I can only hope they will be even more accurate this year!
